Pufferfish are known as auspicious fish that bring good fortune ("fuku"), and are eaten at celebrations and special occasions. This tenugui (Japanese hand towel) depicts the cute, puffed-up appearance of a pufferfish. It's an auspicious tenugui that symbolizes good fortune ("fuku") puffing up ("fukura"). This is an Ito-ya exclusive design tenugui. It is dyed using "chusen," a unique Japanese dyeing technique that has been practiced since the Meiji era. This traditional dyeing technique dyes beautifully on both sides, and each piece is carefully finished by craftsmen. The fabric becomes more familiar with use, and the colors gently change over time, which is one of the great pleasures of a tenugui. It can be used for various purposes such as a handkerchief, scarf, dishcloth, dish towel, placemat, or lunch box wrap.
